| Property Description |
Peaceable Hill is a Regulated Shooting Ground located in the beautiful Champlain Valley of Vermont. The Valley is rich with active dairies, apple orchards, diversified farms and conservation managed buffers. Bird habitat consists of open cropland, corn and grain fields bordered by swale grass ditches and cool season grasses with thicket edges.
Peaceable Hill is comprised of three farms; Home Farm, Cutting Hill and The Gunnery. Each farm is managed exclusively for prime bird habitat. Each farm has unique characteristics, which will satisfy any situation, from training a young pup to challenging an experienced brace. Your dogs or ours, the combination of cover, bird contact and the surrounding beauty will satisfy all your senses.
Bird contact is what Peaceable Hill is all about. Loud cackling Ringnecks, strong and flashy, blasting off from under the nose of a tight Pointer, or a birdie Flusher bumping a skittish hen, is the experience you will not easily forget!
Our mission is to provide you with a grand experience. We have the desire and ability to customize your hunt to your needs. We offer fields and habitat, which allow visual reference when training a young pup, and seclusion to minimize distractions from other hunters. We offer Guides and dogs that are patient and understanding of a young or novice hunter.
Peaceable Hill is open every day. Our Vermont permit allows us to operate year round. Although our primary hunting season begins in September and continues well into Winter limited only by snow depth. The Spring season is favored by many as an ideal time to train a young dog or keep an experienced dog tuned up.
Hunts are booked as1/2 day starting as early as 8:30a.m. with fields clear by Noon. Afternoon hunts begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. with the approach of dusk.
Guided and Handled Hunts
Peaceable Hill’s guides are experienced men and woman who appreciate the interaction between hunters and good, stylish working dogs. English Setters and Pointers are typically used for our upland hunts. Their experience and desire to please will be the foundation of hunting tales long told.
Non-Handled Hunts
Peaceable Hill also offers hunters with their own dog the opportunity to participate in a traditional hunting experience. Unlike other hunting preserves, Peaceable Hill encourages owners to hunt over their own dog. Due to the likelihood that other activities may be taking place on the farm at the same time, owners must take full responsibility for their dog’s behavior.
Peaceable Hill may provide a guide with each party until all party members are familiar with boundaries, productive habitat and our safety program.
Safety
All hunters must wear blaze orange, hat or vest is recommended. No guns larger than 12-gauge. Low brass # 7 ½ shot is recommended; shot larger than # 6 is not permitted. The use of Non-Lead shot is encouraged and appreciated. Peaceable Hill’s no bag limit policy will be in effect for those using Non-Lead shot. This policy permits the hunters to harvest any additional birds encountered during their hunt. |
