Come fish with us on the Storm Petrel, try some of the best fishing the Northeast has to offer! Block Island is surrounded by hundreds of square miles of clean, fish filled waters.Boats come here to fish from Connecticut, New York,and even Massachusetts. People are drawn from all across the United States by the great fishery found here.
Often, the fishing is wonderful less than five minutes from the dock! Even going to the other side of the island takes no longer than fifteen or twenty minutes. This means that way more of your time is spent actually fishing.
Inshore fishing around Block Island focuses on Striped Bass, Bluefish,Fluke (Summer Flounder), and Bonito. Offshore fishing targets Tuna, Sharks, and other large pelagics.

Storm Petrel
Storm Petrel is a Bertram 31, commonly known as the best boat ever built. Bertram built some eighteen hundred of these very seaworthy, bullet proof workhorses between 1961 and 1986. Almost every one of them is still in service today. They are very popular with charter captains; almost everywhere chartering happens you will see many 31' Bertrams.
Storm petrel is powered by twin Yanmar diesels, which push her along at speeds over 30 miles per hour. FAST for a charter boat.
We carry an eight person offshore inflatable liferaft on board, as well as type 1 life preservers for all passengers and crew.(We are limited to six passengers, as are all uninspected charter vessels) Storm Petrel has a satellite global positioning system, a 36 mile color radar, a satellite emergency position indicating radio beacon(e.p.i.r.b.), and a 1000 watt color fishfinding sonar.
The fishing tackle includes Daiwa star drag reels for inshore wire line trolling, Shimano lever drag reels for inshore bait fishing, Penn and Shimano lever drag (from 30 lb. to 130 lb.) for offshore, and Penn spinning reels for inshore and offshore casting.
Meet your captain
Captain Steve Miller is a life-long fisherman. He started fishing on the family boat as a toddler, got his first job as an assistant mate on a head boat at age eight, joined the Coast Guard at seventeen, and started fishing commercially after that. He has fished in Puerto Rico, Barbados, The Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Hawaii and Mexico. Capt. Steve is a full time resident of Block Island (where he has fished since the eighties),and has a U.S. Coast Guard 50 ton Master's license.
