Nestled in the Western Mountains of Maine lies the Upper Kennebec Valley and the little town of Bingham, home of Gateway Recreation and Lodging. The low key lifestyle of the town was preserved in 1998 when Gateway Recreation and Lodging was established as a four season resort for the outdoors person in all of us. Come visit and see what the outdoors in Maine is all about. The Upper Kennebec Valley is a vacation wonderland for all outdoor enthusiasts. The region sports two of Maine's premier whitewater rafting rivers, (the Kennebec River and the Dead River). The Appalachian Trail is available for hiking, as well as numerous trails which will take you to scenic waterfalls or up beautiful mountains. Abundant wildlife is available for hunting or photography. Countless miles of snowmobile trails including ITS 87 are accessible right from your cabin. The fishing opportunities range from any number of small ponds in the area which are home to native Maine Brook Trout to the Kennebec River which is home to a self sustaining population of rainbow trout. Hunting:
Hunting in the Upper Kennebec Valley of Maine offers many opportunities for the adventurous hunter. Hunt for moose (by permit only), black bear, whitetail deer, ruffed grouse, woodcock, rabbits, or coyotes on thousands of acres of woodlands. The majority of land is owned by large landowners who allow recreational use without fees or gates. Here at Gateway Recreation and Lodging we know the woods and can direct you to some of the finest hunting areas that can be found in Maine.
Fishing:
There are fishing opportunities in the Upper Kennebec Valley of Maine for everyone. Imagine flyfishing for brook trout, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon in the Kennebec River. Flyfishing for brook trout on any number of small fly fishing only ponds in the region. Fishing famous Pierce Pond for brook trout and landlocked salmon. Fishing for smallmouth bass on Indian Pond or Wyman Lake. Taking your kids fishing on Wyman Lake for yellow and white perch, sunfish, and smallmouth bass. Ice fishing Wyman Lake for landlocked salmon, brook trout, rainbow trout, and smelt. Gateway Recreation and Lodging we know the area and can tell you where the fish are. Accommodations:
Accommodations at Gateway Recreation and Lodging consist of 7 new housekeeping cabins with private baths and full bedding for 6 to 8 people. All cabins have refrigerators, CD player/radios, and coffee makers as added amenities.
Three of our cabins are equipped with complete kitchens for parties that want to be self sufficient. You can also cook your meal over an open fire on one of our outdoor fire pits which also can be used as gathering point for an evening of socializing after a great day in the outdoors. If you don't care to prepare meals yourself you can get hearty home cooked meals in town at any one of the areas fine restaurants.
Horseshoe pits, a volleyball net, and fireplaces are located around the cabins to provide activities during your stay. Picnic tables and outdoor chairs provide places to congregate during warm weather evenings.
Storage space is available for boats and snowmobiles for those who would like to store them instead of hauling them back and forth between trips.
