If you enjoy hunting, there is a wide range of game in this area. County forest land is located within 5 miles of Big Swede's and can be hunted for grouse, showshoe rabbits, squirrel, deer, and bear. Hunting on private land is also available for a price. Deer management is practiced and must be 8 points or above. If you're a bow hunter, we have a bow season that runs from mid September through December.
During the last deer hunting season Big Swede's had a big buck contest. 51 contestants entered. 36 deer were taken. Three deer had 22 inch spreads (see photos). Two 10 pointers and one 11 pointer were also taken.
Fishing on Lake Holcombe has produced many 50 inch plus Musky. They must be 42 inches to keep. There is a 95% release rate. Walleyes are abundant and crappies of the large size are here by the thousands. Small mouth bass, bluegill, northern pike, large mouth bass, perch, bullheads, and catfish are also available.
