Come look inside at what we have to offer. We're the same great facility and people you've known from Heartland Waterfowl, but we are now independent!
Muddy Rivers Lodge is nestled in a unique part of Illinois for waterfowl hunting. We are located right on the Mississippi River and we are only a few miles from the Illinois River. This creates a natural funnel for migrating birds coming down both of these exceptional flyways. Hunt mallards, pintail, widgeon, gadwall, wood ducks, and teal along with Canadian geese from our flooded grain fields. Or, experience the thrill of hunting diver ducks on the mighty Mississippi River.
We provide over twenty heated pits and blinds located in flooded corn, bean, and millet fields. Hunts on the Mississippi River will be from one of our two islands or from pontoon blinds. Guests are driven to within a short walking distance of blinds, shortly before legal shooting hours. Master guide and operations manager Leon Holcomb will have decoys set and dog in place in anticipation of the
morning's excitement.
Waterfowl
Waterfowl hunts are from legal shooting time until 11:00a.m. We recommend you try one of our waterfowl/upland combination hunts. On a combination hunt you will hunt duck in the morning, come in for a home-cooked lunch and go to the upland field for an afternoon hunt. Hardcore duck hunter? Then choose one of our Duck/Duck combinations. You will do a normal duck hunt in the morning, have lunch, then move to another blind for the evening flight.
Upland Hunting
Our upland hunting provides some of the most exciting moments a hunter could ask for. Each group of hunters will be assisted by a guide and dogs. Your heart will race as the dogs lock on point. Get in position and be ready for those fast fliers to flush!
Whitetail Hunting
Our tri-county area in Illinois is known as the whitetail capital of the world. We at Muddy Rivers manage our deer ground to produce monster bucks. Currently we offer a limited number of archery hunts on our "Trophy" ground. All hunts are guided and all bucks taken must be 140 class or better. Bucks taken under 140 will be fined $100 per point under. Hunters with extra tags are encouraged to harvest a doe at no extra cost. Standard hunts are available with no minimum score. Turkey Hunting
All hunters will be accompanied by a guide. All hunting must end at 1:00 PM due to state regulated laws. All Illinois state laws apply. Tags for turkey hunting must be drawn ahead of time. The guide can help you by doing the calling unless you prefer to call yourself. The afternoons will be spent scouting and roosting for the next mornings hunt.
Hosts
The Main House is where your hosts Leon and Sue Holcomb live. It's also the dining facility where all of your home-cooked meals will be served.
Lodges
Both of our guest lodges overlook one of our scenic rest lakes. These lodges have all the amenities of your own home, each lodge has a kitchen, living rooms, and
large bathrooms. The bedrooms are all double occupancy, other arrangements can be made.
