Property Description
Tall Timber Lodge is a relaxed and rustic resort located in the heart of northern New Hampshire's unspoiled wilderness, offerring unparalleled fishing, relaxing, loon listening, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hunting, snowmobiling and moose watching!

We invite you to explore and discover why so many regional and national publications have chosen to recommend Tall Timber as Pittsburg's destination of choice, and why so many of our valued returning guests have made Tall Timber Lodge their North Woods Tradition!

Bird Hunting
Bird Hunting in Pittsburg offers some of the finest bird hunting in the Northeast. This area is known for its excellent grouse and woodcock hunting and the stocking of ring-necked pheasant several weekends in October introduces a new facet of game bird hunting to the north country. Woodcock can usually be hunted with success from October through early November. The alder and poplar bogs of Pittsburg provide ideal cover for our resident woodcock and "flights" of migrating woodcock from Canada make for some exciting shooting as well.

Perhaps the most popular and challenging of all the game birds is the ruffed grouse. Pittsburg’s mixture of hardwood forests and softwood thickets make an ideal home for grouse. The forests of Pittsburg are still actively managed for timber production, making many early growth timber areas so vital to the grouse's success. With so many miles of prime grouse cover, you can opt to hunt the proven hot spots or discover your own secret covers. Whether looking for advice on finding prime areas, or just taking a hearty bagged lunch out on the trail, Tall Timber provides an exciting bird hunting experience.

Big Game
Big Game Hunting in Pittsburg consists of approximately three hundred square miles of forest, wooded primarily with balsam fir, beech, cherry and birch, 90% of which is owned by International Paper Company. This vast, remote wilderness is open to public hunting and is accessible by logging roads, four-wheeled drive roads or afoot. An abundant supply of wild blueberries and raspberries provide tasty treats for wildlife, particularly the black bear. Browse in our area is plentiful, helping the deer grow large in a short amount of time. Two hundred pound plus bucks are common and yearling bucks average one hundred twenty five pounds, often already sporting four to six antler points. Moose hunting in New Hampshire is done by lottery. If you get lucky enough to be chosen you have a 95% chance of success due to Pittsburg’s large population of moose.

Fishing:
The Connecticut Lakes Region is truly a fisherman’s paradise. Your angling opportunities range from casting on a remote pond to trolling the lakes or wading the streams or Connecticut River. With the abundance of lakes, ponds and streams, you’ll be able to fish new water each day. Pittsburg is strictly a cold water fishery containing brook, brown and rainbow trout, lake trout and landlocked salmon, satisfying the fly fisherman and spin fisherman alike.

If it’s stream fishing you are most interested in, the "Fly Fishing Only" sections of the Connecticut River provide some of the best fly fishing in the Northeast. The "Trophy Stretch", a two and one half mile of riffles and pools, holds both trout and salmon. Throughout June, July and yes, even in August, you’ll find phenomenal fly fishing due to a bottom release dam that provides clear, cold water throughout the summer.

Jon Howe is our registered NH Guide on staff, in addition to other highly qualified Guides that can be arranged in advance. For the adventurous fisherman, we have boats on many outer ponds and on most big lakes. Fishing licenses, proven trout teasing tackle, and Pittsburg’s best selection of flies can be found in the Tall Timber Fly Shop.
